WHAT PEOPLE SAY

During my time in the program, I met many civil rights icons from the 1960's movement. Their stories are the ones that are not shared in the classrooms. I found them to be not only beautiful, inspiring, and strength-giving but also more important than ever in today's climate. Their stories need to be passed on to youth

Marcus Garvey said, ‘A people without the knowlege of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.’ I thank Dr. Saulsberry and others for allowing me and others to get in touch with our roots. They even gave us the opportunity to explore. I now reside in the DMV area and my first time there was through FootSteps. I was also introduced to Atlanta and Birmingham and met some wonderful civil rights icons. I encourage everyone to support this organization in some way as they continue to tell the story and pass it on.

I served as a chaperone on the trip to Washington, DC. I saw how engaged the students were in the history lessons and how much they enjoyed being in a different atmosphere than home. The FootSteps program opened their eyes to what was, what is and what can be.
